VIII. Great Expectations

Disappointments can be prevented if you do not expect anything out of anything/anyone. Must be thankful to whatever you have- the air you breathe, the water you drink, the rain, the clouds, parents, friends. Great expectations can be castles made of sand. Disappointment is an unnecessary trouble. You are fortunate if you can realize this... .

Us and them - Pink Floyd

Us and Them
And after all we're only ordinary men
Me, and you
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do
Forward he cried from the rear
And the front rank died
And the General sat, as the lines on the map
Moved from side to side
Black and Blue
And who knows which is which and who is who
Up and Down
And in the end it's only round and round and round
Haven't you heard it's a battle of words
The poster bearer cried
Listen son, said the man with the gun
There's room for you inside
Down and Out
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about
With, without
And who'll deny that's what the fighting's all about
Get out of the way, it's a busy day
And I've got things on my mind
For want of the price of tea and a slice
The old man died

VII. Choice and Destiny

Sometimes you have to choose between two evils. Sometimes you've got to side with the devil you know. Sometimes you need to taste a bit of poison just to stay alive. Sometimes you have to settle for the easy rather than the difficult, the cheaper rather than the expensive, anonymity rather than fame etc.

Everybody makes choices that are seen to be life changing. But the most important choices are already made for us- our parents, place of birth, time of birth, home, education, opportunities etc. By the time we realize our power to make decision and strive for our goals, we are already on a path that has been arranged for us- not necessarily by anyone in particular, but by the course of events upon which we have little control. Then comes the question of destiny, fatalism and all those things that modernity detests.

Acceptance is the best way. Trust time to make everything clear. Sometimes you have to fall to rise again. No choice is wrong because knowledge is the greatest gain.

VI. Mellow

Slow and soft, soft and slow,
in cycles of boredom and contentment
Lazy days and tiring nights
may never be dimmed, these sparkling lights

Oh time so flies by mellow, yellow,
accept my gratitude for this vision
Though this will not last an eternity,
will gladly see you next season ....
